2011 Volvo S60: Sportiest and Most Dynamic Volvo Ever!

By , October 7, 2011 9:32 pm

“City Safety” meets “chill city” as Volvo re-invents itself to allow safety and style to co-exist exceptionally in their latest project. Calm, cool and collective were my initial thoughts upon driving the all-new Volvo S60 sports sedan. It’s a very chill vehicle that looks great while creating emotional feedback and response. It’s calm and confident due to the standard cadre of technological safety enhancements. A perennial leader in automotive safety advancements, Volvo is always raising the bar beyond traditional expectations. Now imagine if every vehicle on the road came standard with City Safety and Pedestrian Detection. Our kids, family and friends would be much safer on the roads!

Volvo 140 Owning Up to Its Personal Space in Automobile History

By , October 31, 2010 4:14 pm

In its own history, Volvo is a Swedish world leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, buses, and construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications, aerospace components and service, and this group also provides complete solutions for financing and service. Volvo Cars, however, which is the manufacturer of automobiles that we know at present, has since been owned by the Ford Motor Company starting the year 1999.

The name Volvo is a Latin word that means “I roll”. This name surely fits well as a description of their products – vehicles – that the company crafts. However, originally, it is a name for a ball bearing that was being developed by the company which, at that time, provided funding to a small number of employees for them to be able to set up the car manufacturing business. Today, the Volvo Group has been manufacturing vehicles in twenty five countries with its sales in more than 185 markets around the globe.

Some of the reasons why Volvo had took the initiative to sell the automobile manufacturing was because of the increasing development costs for new car models, added up with the fact that at that time it was a relatively small producer of such. Its strategy was then to grow as a truck manufacturer where it had a stronger market position. Now, Volvo the line of vehicles is included and part of the Ford Motor Company’s line up.

The list of Volvo models could look seemingly endless with new models coming up out in the market regularly. A part of the list includes the Volvo 140 which consists of the models Volvo 142, which is a two door vehicle, the Volvo 144, which has four doors, and the Volvo 145, which is an estate wagon. This model was first introduced in 1967. The Volvo 140 series was the start of using a three number system for their crafts. It is some sort of acronym for the first number indicates the series, the second number displays the number of series, and the third number shows the number of doors.

The very first Volvo to feature the classic boxy look is the Volvo 140. This provided a lot of interior space, as compared to the Volvo Amazon. It also bore a radical new design with the only similar features to the Amazon being the split grill and some parts of the interior. The basic shape of the Volvo 140 lived into the 1990s with the 200 series. It used the same 85 hp engine, and then later was changed to the B20 engine. A 115 hp engine was also made available. Going back to 1966, the Volvo 140 had been awarded and had been named as the Car of the Year for that year by the Swedish magazine Teknikens Varld.

Volvo S70: The Traditional Volvo Box Type Vehicle

By , October 23, 2010 7:14 pm

The Volvo S70 seems to be the remaining survivor of Volvo’s line up of traditional box types. This vehicle is from the go-fast T5 version. It has been the quickest and faster car that Volvo has been able to produce and craft for the automotive market. So what does the whole Volvo S70 T5 mean? If a person has had a quick background on the way Volvo christens its vehicles, he would be able to comprehend that the S stands for sedan. The number 70, meanwhile, is the midsize front wheel drive platform that is used in the Volvo S70′s crafting and manufacturing. As for the T5, well, that is the turbocharged engine with five cylinders. There also is the optional 2.3 liter DOHC engine, though, for this vehicle. And this engine has four valves per cylinder and is turbocharged and intercooled. It has the capacity and capability to produce some 240 units of horsepower at 5100 rpm.

The Volvo S70 is still another Volvo. Just by taking a look at its safety features, one would never think that this vehicle is done by any other vehicle manufacturer but Volvo. It has the capacity to take in a maximum of five passengers in its very comfortable cabin. Most people who have been able to come in contact with this vehicle know that it is indeed a bargain to get ahold of a Volvo S70. Its competition include the Audi A6, the BMW 5 series, the Chrysler Concorde, the Infiniti I 30, the Lexus ES 300, the Mazda Millenia, the Mercedes Benz C Class, as well as the Mitsubishi Diamante.

Although the Volvo S70 is sluggish without the turbocharger engine, it still is very well priced. It holds nice lines and has acquired a very good reputation for quality as well as safety. It offers more room than any of its competition. And people behind the wheel of the Volvo S70 will find it easy and well to handle. Standard equipment for this vehicle includes a four speed automatic transmission, a front wheel drive system, a four wheel anti lock braking system disc brakes, a rack and pinion power steering, front and side air bags, child safety locks, a power glass sunroof, a 9 way power driver’s seat, a remote keyless entry system, a security system, a climate control, power windows and mirrors, a stereo sound system with cassette, a tilt and telescopic wheel, as well as a remote trunk and fuel lids.
